McCalls 8178 – Liberty London Floral Dress
Another day, another floral dress! McCalls 8178 did not disappoint. I’ve come across these dresses from RHODE many times on Instagram and always loved the skirt style. But at $425 you know that is not in my budget. McCalls early spring collection to the rescue! The moment I saw this pattern released I knew it was going to be my new favorite dress (second only to this one).
I was initially intimidated by the construction of the godet skirt as I haven’t made one like that before. Aside from all of the time spent pinning all TEN of them together, the sewing part wasn’t actually too bad. Side note about the fabric: I believe this sheet is from a collaboration that they did with Pottery Barn Teen a few years back. I’ve always admired Liberty London fabric but I haven’t ever splurged on buying it so finding this at the thrift store was quite the score for me.
McCalls 8178 Pattern Information and Modifications:
PATTERN: McCalls 8178, View C – you can buy it here
FABRIC: 100% Cotton (thrifted)
MODIFICATIONS: I decided to line the bodice and nixed the neck facing (not necessary if there’s a lining!) For the skirt I also added a lining that measured the same width and the skirt but minus all of the godets. I think next time I might swap out the long sleeves for short sleeves from another pattern. I also ended up taking a few inches off the top of the skirt.
Outfit Details:
DRESS: Made By Me!
SNEAKERS: Nordstrom Rack (old)
EARRINGS: Loft (old)
Not sewing related… but how beautiful are beautiful are these purple flowers?! I am in love! I walk to this park almost everyday during my lunch break (there’s also a cute fountain, benches and a rose garden) and it’s been fun watching them bloom
I hope you’re inspired to browse the thrift store for your next sewing project!
