Simplicity 9101 – Neutral Printed Dress

In February, Jessica Riviera of Enas Bazaar hosted a sew along (see all the projects here at #sewalongfebwithjess). I haven’t been sewing much the past six months (holidays, started a new job, global pandemic – you know, the usual) and thought this would be a nice way to get back in the swing of things.

Simplicity 9101 is a very easy pattern and that is precisely why I chose it. Minimal pattern pieces and seams made for a very quick sew (even with my modifications – more on those below) If I made this pattern again, I would probably use a fabric with more drape. Still happy with how it turned out though!

PATTERN: Simplicity 9101, View A – you can buy it here.
FABRIC: 100% Cotton (thrifted!)
MODIFICATIONS: I shortened the hemline significantly. I love a good midi dress, but between the simple cut and the drape of my fabric (i.e. pretty stiff cotton) I thought it would look better in shorter length. I also added a ruffle that was double the width of my skirt. Additionally, I also cut the bodice on the fold, eliminating the center seam down the front. One thing to note – the bias tape neckline was an accidental modification. That was not supposed to be on the outside! Such is life. At least the color matched…
